Christmas, Spending, and Financial Crisis

Christmas is past and as I look back it was a really nice Christmas. I kept it as simple as I could. My (step)dad sent money for me and the kids that are here. Normally I would’ve spent the money for me on the kids, but this year I bought myself things. Some was practical like new shoes, some was enjoyable like another piece for my Christmas town, and some was in between like a pine tree used as a decoration and will be planted in the backyard. I didn’t realize my kids liked seeing me open presents so much!

With the presents from other people there and the few things that I was able to get her, the youngest (13) got quite a few gifts and was very happy!

I did get carried away with some extra spending at the grocery store but it brought to light a couple problems I have that lead to unnecessary spending. I have never been one to spend money on anything extravagant, but I do tie up my money unnecessarily. I need to avoid the extra boxes of cake mix even if it is on sale. If I have bills to pay I need to learn to do without cake and also trust there will be more sales and there will be money for cake mix if I really need to make cake, like for a birthday.

I got carried away with making cheesecakes, but it gave me extra to give away. I just couldn’t decide on which kind so I made 5 different kinds and a second one of the plain cheesecake. Looking back it tied up more money than I needed to.
